The edginess in the team and other quarters of xxx… continued to rise on the following day (dismissal). My TL figured he needed to do something about it and fixed a meeting for us with the off-shore (Bangalore) Director, so that we could address our concerns and understand the whole story including what he knew of it – nice idea.
You have to appreciate the Director for handling the meeting, the way he did. He had to make peace with his employees – petrified and unhappy with things at work and keep my boss (from the parent company) happy, because “… they are our customers…” in the words of the Director. The team was not happy with the boss’s decision and the boss had to do what he had to do. Conflict! I think it takes confidence and a cool head to resolve stuff like this. So everyone’s gathered for this meeting and the Director maintains a cool down to earth tone (makes the team comfortable) and asked us to complain. People shot out all heir fears and worries about the suddenness of the whole thing, how unfair it was, ...blah blah blah. He made note of each one’s point and gave a “reasonable” explanation to each complaint. Then explained that it was not a sudden thing and how things had escalated to a point where the boss had to make a decision. For all his concern the Director managed to get my team mate to work with another group in xxx… itself. You could see that the team was settling down again after they heard this. I think it was really nice of him to not let go of my team mate, when he could have so easily. He didn’t have to give a fuck. But he showed that he cares and I think that made the team feel good. Way to go Mr. Director. This episode is probably so familiar to all you management folk. What a confusion the corporate world is!
